BLM CREWS PLAN FIRE PROJECTS NEAR TULE MOUNTAIN AND ADIN

Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management's Alturas Field Office will complete prescribed fire projects near Adin and Tule Mountain in October and November.

BLM Alturas Fire Management Officer Jerry Wheeler said the prescribed fires will be ignited only if a variety of weather and fuel moisture conditions allow for safe and effective burning.

In the South Knob project, about 18 miles southeast of Adin, crews will burn about 1,200 acres of brush to leave a mosaic pattern of new plant growth and brush. This northern Lassen County project will improve habitat for wildlife including mule deer.

Wheeler said crews will also burn piles of limbs and brush along the Tule Access Road, between the Clarks Valley Road and Jess Valley Road.

The piles were created during construction of fire breaks on public lands in northern Lassen and southern Modoc counties.

For safety, Wheeler urged hunters and other back country visitors to stay out of the fire areas while burning is under way.
