BLM PLANS PRESCRIBED FIRE NEAR MADELINE

Bureau of Land Management fire crews will ignite a prescribed fire in the Ash Valley area later this month, in a project designed to improve habitat.

Jerry Wheeler, fire management officer for the BLM Alturas Field Office, said the 30-acre burn south of Madeline will remove brush, grass and pine needles to improve growing conditions for several plant species that are rare or listed as "special status," warranting special management actions from the BLM.

Wheeler said the burn will be conducted during the last two weeks in September, only when weather conditions and other factors allow for safe and successful burning.
