For Immediate Release: May 9, 2004 Clean-up Scheduled For Closed Shooting AreaThe Bureau of Land Management Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office and the Cleveland National Forest are sponsoring a clean-up on June 12, 2004 for the High Point shooting area which was recently closed due to unsafe shooting activity. The area can be accessed by taking Highway 79 east from Temecula, California to Aguanga Valley and then turn right at the Rancho California RV Resort. Trash and debris along the High Point Road, which accesses the east side of Palomar Mountain, will be cleaned of debris and trash. Sites along the road have been used over the years for target shooting and are littered with bullet casings, paper targets, broken bottles, cans, and numerous other household items used as targets. The clean-up will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those planning on participating should be prepared for strenuous work in hot temperatures and it is recommended that volunteers bring work gloves, hats, water, sun screen, and a light lunch.
