For Release: February 11, 2004 Anderson named as BLM's Redding manager Steven W. Anderson is the new field office manager for the Bureau of Land Management's Redding office. He is currently the assistant district manager in Albuquerque, NM, and will report to his new position in early April. "Steve's diverse experience as a park ranger, fire fighter, law enforcement ranger, and project manager brings a unique perspective to California's management team," said BLM California State Director Mike Pool. "We look forward to his arrival to continue the good work being accomplished in the Redding office." In Redding, Anderson will oversee a field office staff of about 30 employees. The office is responsible for natural resource management on over 350,000 acres of public lands in Butte, Tehama, Shasta, Trinity and Siskiyou counties. Anderson, who grew up along the banks of the Mississippi River in Illinois, came west initially to work as a seasonal interpretive naturalist at Yosemite National Park and a fire fighter in the Inyo National Forest. "I look forward to my return to California," said Anderson. "I know the staff is very professional, and the communities very involved in the resource issues and opportunities in northern California. I want to continue to build on the successful work already accomplished." Anderson began his career managing a state forest for the Illinois Department of Conservation in between earning a bachelor's degree in park administration from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in environmental studies from the University of Illinois. His other career experiences include being a park ranger for the Army Corps
of Engineers in Porterville, Calif., an outdoor recreation planner for the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service in Othello, Washington and a resident law enforcement
ranger for BLM in Folsom, Calif. Anderson replaces Chuck Schultz who retired in January. Steve and his wife, Mino, look forward to their move to Redding.
