BLM CITIZEN ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETS OCT. 8-9 IN ARCATA

Members of the Bureau of Land Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council will discuss natural resource issues including livestock grazing and wind energy development, when they convene for a field tour and meeting Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 8 and 9, at the BLM's Arcata Field Office, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata.

On Oct. 8, the council will convene at 10 a.m., and then depart immediately for a field tour of the South Spit, Humboldt Bay.  Members will hear reports on the management partnership now in place, and discuss the interim management plan.

The Oct. 9 business meeting begins at 8 a.m. in the Conference Room of the BLM field office.  Agenda items include a briefing on the management plan for the Headwaters Forest Reserve, a recommendation to the BLM on potential changes in livestock grazing administration, a status report on the Honeydew Fire in the King Range National Conservation Area, and a status report on proposals for wind energy development in the Clear Lake area.

The field tour and business meeting are open to the public.  Those participating in the field trip must provide their own transportation and lunch.  Time for public comments has been set aside for

1 p.m. on Oct. 9.

The 12-member advisory council provides advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the BLM's California state director and agency managers in Arcata, Redding and Ukiah.  Members represent a broad range of public land interests including timber management, livestock grazing, environmental interests, recreation users, local government and the public at large.
