BLM ANNOUNCES FALL HIKING SCHEDULE FOR HEADWATERS FOREST RESERVE

Guided hikes into the Headwaters Forest Reserve and the historic Falk townsite will continue into the autumn months, the Bureau of Land Management has announced.

BLM park rangers will lead the outings into the southern portion of the reserve on Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 15 or until heavy rains begin.  Those interested should make a reservation for a specific day by calling the BLM's Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300.

Interpretive hikes into Falk, site of a historic mill town, will be offered on Saturdays, Oct. 18 and 25.  Participants should meet at 10 a.m. at the north Headwaters parking area at the end of Elk River Road.  Reservations are not required.

To get there, exit U. S. 101 south of Eureka on Elk River Road and travel about six miles to the parking area.  Stay to the right at the two forks in the road.  During the hike, BLM park rangers will explain the history of the mill town and the lifestyles of the people who lived and worked there.

For more information on these outings, contact the BLM's Arcata Field Office.
