For Release: September 12, 2003 CCal-03-34 Local volunteers invited to Fort Ord National Public Lands Day event The Bureau of Land Management is hosting its third National Public Lands Day event at Fort Ord public lands on September 20, 2003, beginning a 9 a.m. Volunteers will help with trail maintenance, native seed collection, invasive weed control, picnic area maintenance and stabilizing potential erosion areas. Beginning at noon, volunteers will be treated to a BBQ lunch, entertainment and fun activities for families. To get to the project site on September 20, participants should follow the "BLM Special Event" signs from the main Fort Ord entrance off Highway 1 to the project site near Marina. From the main gate, turn right on General Jim Moore Blvd., left on Gigling, right on Baroly Canyon road, then left on Eucalyptus Road straight through to Jacks Road and into the parking area on the right side of the road. Since 1994, National Public Lands Day has increasingly demonstrated Americans' concern for their public lands. Thousands of volunteers take part in projects throughout the country to improve and preserve our nation's public places for the enjoyment of all.
