BLM PLANS PRESCRIBED BURN IN
NORHTWEST LASSEN COUNTY

Fire crews from the U. S. Bureau of Land Management will conduct a prescribed burn in northwest Lassen County in early November.  The burn site is about 18 miles south of Adin.

Jerry Wheeler, fire management officer for the BLM's Alturas Field Office, said the 1,545-acre project is designed to improve wildlife habitat by improving the variety of plants.  Brush will be burned to leave a mosaic pattern of plant species.

Crews will ignite the project on days during the first two weeks in November when conditions including temperature, winds, relative humidity and others allow for safe and successful burning.

"We need to get a little rain before we do the project," Wheeler said.  "Conditions are just too dry right now."

The project area will be marked with signs.  Wheeler said people must stay out of the project area during the burn.
