FIELD OFFICE PLANS PRESCRIBED FIRE PROJECTS
The Bureau
of Land Management's Surprise Field Office in Cedarville is planning several
prescribed fire projects for this fall, with the first burns tentatively
scheduled for the week of October 28. BLM Fire
Management Officer Garth Jeffers said projects would be ignited only if weather
conditions, including temperature, winds and relative humidity, allow for safe
and successful burning. Crews plan
a small burning project in the Hays Canyon Range. The project, totaling about five acres, will
help reduce fuels and help create a "mosaic" of vegetation that
benefits wildlife. Slash pile
burning is planned in the Newlands and Cottonwood Mountain areas, about 15
miles south of Eagleville, near the Lassen-Modoc county border. Jeffers
said there are two burns scheduled in the High Rock Canyon Area about 60 miles
southeast of Cedarville. Crews plan to
burn about 10 acres in the center of Little High Rock Canyon and 25 acres at
the south end of High Rock Canyon. Both
projects will reduce hazardous fuels and improve wildlife habitat by increasing
the variety of plants in the canyon bottoms. The
projects are planned for time periods in November or early December, when
conditions are favorable. Additional
information on the upcoming fire projects is available from the BLM Surprise
Field Office, (530) 279-6101. -BLM- Surprise Field Office 602 Cressler Street Cedarville, CA 96104
