December Oil and Gas Lease Sale

The Bureau of Land Management will conduct a sale of oil and gas leases on federal land on Thursday, December 5, 2002. The lease sale will be held at the Holiday Inn Select in Bakersfield.

A detailed notice of the sale with the parcel descriptions, acreage, lease terms and conditions, oral bidding procedures and requirements, and other sale information has been published and is available on the internet at:

http://www.ca.blm.gov/caso/compsales.html.

The BLM is required by law to periodically offer federal land for lease for oil and gas exploration and development. Another sale is scheduled for March 12, 2003 and the BLM always tries to include lands in which there is an interest. Industry is encouraged to identify federal lands in California it believes have potential for development through what is called an "expression of interest".

An expression of interest is a letter or a form listing the legal description of lands an individual or company is interested in seeing offered for lease, and must be received by December 6, 2002 in order to be considered for the March lease sale.

Expressions of interest should be sent to the BLM California State Office, Attention: Leroy Mohorich at 2800 Cottage Way, Suite W-1618, Sacramento, CA. 95825. You may contact Nora DeDios at the BLM Bakersfield Office at (661) 391-6129, if you have questions regarding the sale, or to obtain a form to submit an expression of interest. The BLM encourages those interested to submit an expression of interest at any time, and they will be considered for inclusion is the next scheduled sale.
