Linda Hansen named as BLM California Desert District Manager

Linda Hansen is the new Desert District Manager for the Bureau of Land Management.  BLM State Director Mike Pool announced the appointment of Hansen today, at the California state office in Sacramento.

"Linda has demonstrated superior knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position," said Pool.  "Her career experiences in California as part of the state management team for the past eleven years has provided her a unique familiarity with the sensitive issues facing BLM in the California Desert."

Hansen, BLM's Eagle Lake field manager in Susanville since 1991, has been acting as the interim desert district manager since February.  Prior to her assignment in Susanville, Hansen was the district planning coordinator in Ukiah, California.

She completed the USDA graduate school, executive potential program in March of 2000.  The program develops executive leadership skills and knowledge to function as a future senior executive.  As part of the program she received leadership development assignments as the natural resources advisor in the assistant director's office in Washington, D.C. and as the acting associate state director for California.

The California Desert District is comprised of public lands in the lower third of California, including a large portion of the California Desert Conservation Area (CDCA).  Congress created the CDCA in 1976 to protect the natural, historic, recreation and economic riches of the region; and to preserve the scenic beauty of the California desert. This area covers 25 million acres or almost one-quarter of California. The BLM California Desert District (CDD) cares for almost half of that total, or 10.5 million acres.  The CDD also manages 300,000 acres of scattered parcels outside the CDCA in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and San Diego Counties. The District is divided into five resource areas: Ridgecrest, Palm Springs/South Coast, El Centro, Barstow and Needles, and currently employs 203 full time employees.
