BLM RESOURCE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETS OCT. 23-24 IN WEAVERVILLE

Members of the Bureau of Land Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council will discuss a wide range of natural resource issues, when they hold a field tour and business meeting Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 23 and 24, in Weaverville.

The council will convene Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Weaverville Victorian Inn, 1709 Main St.  They will depart for a tour of fire and fuels projects, and an area proposed for a land exchange, on land administered by the BLM=s Redding Field Office.  The tour is expected to return to Weaverville by 4 p.m.

Members of the public are welcome on the tour, but they must provide their own lunch and water, and transportation in a high-clearance vehicle.

On Oct. 24, the RAC business meeting begins at 8 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Victorian Inn.  Agenda topics include an update on off highway vehicle management, a status report on a management plan for the South Spit area of Humboldt County, and a status report on a proposal for creation of a Weaverville community forest.  The RAC will also receive reports on fire and fuels projects on BLM's northwest California areas, hear an update on the land use planning in the Horseshoe Ranch area of Siskiyou County, and receive information on the Oregon Mountain fire salvage.

The council will also hear a report on a series of public meetings regarding the draft management plan for the Cache Creek Natural Area in parts of Colusa, Lake and Yolo counties.

Time for public comments has been reserved at 1 p.m.  Anyone is welcome to address the council. Depending on the number wishing to speak, a time limit could be established.

The advisory council, one of 24 such groups in the western states, advises BLM field managers in Redding, Ukiah and Arcata on a wide range of natural resource issues.  Members represent a diversity of public land interests including recreation, energy and mineral development, livestock grazing, environmental concerns, timber interests, local government and the public at large.
