BLM RESOURCE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETS OCT. 17-18 IN SPARKS Land use planning issues
will highlight the agenda, when the Bureau of Land Management's Northeast
California Resource Advisory Council (RAC) meets Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17
and 18, in the Conference Center of John Asquaga's Nugget in Sparks. The meeting will include
a joint session with the BLM Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource
Advisory Council. The Northeast California
RAC will convene its business meeting Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. Agenda items include reports from the BLM
California State Management Team meeting, and status reports on development of
a juniper management strategy, conservation planning for sage grouse, and
development of new land use plans for BLM-managed public lands in northeast
California and extreme northwest Nevada.
Time for public comments has been scheduled for 5 p.m. On Oct. 18, the council
convenes at 7:30 a.m. in joint session with the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great
Basin RAC to discuss planning issues related to the Black Rock Desert-High Rock
Canyon-Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. The RACs
will hear a report from a joint subcommittee that has been working closely with
the BLM on development of a draft management plan and environmental impact
statement for the National Conservation Area north of Gerlach, Nev. The BLM councils provide
advice to the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM, on issues affecting
management of public lands. The
Northeast California RAC works with managers in Susanville, Alturas and
Cedarville, Calif., while the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin RAC advises
managers in Carson City and Winnemucca, Nev. Both sessions are open
