BLM Offering Reward for Kaweah Vandals

Graffiti is not just a city problem as the Bureau of Land Management is sadly learning. This serious vandalism problem is also marring the natural beauty of the BLM recreation sites along the south fork of the Kaweah River near the community of Three Rivers.

BLM rangers discovered "Nazi" graffiti on signs and rocks at the Cherry Falls site over the weekend. Swastikas and the SS logo were a chilling reminder that such damage usually tries to send a message, along with such standard fare as "Elizabeth loves Anthony forever." This message, and the swastikas, were painted on signs and rocks at the popular recreation area where BLM officials have been struggling to control unruly visitors. There has a been a lot of success, but also these types of setbacks.

There is a standing reward of $1,000.00 offered by BLM for the arrest and conviction of anyone causing damage at Kaweah or anywhere else on public lands. Call BLM Chief Ranger Ed Ruth at 661-391-6089, and you may remain anonymous if you wish.

"If I catch who did this, I'm really going to press for jail time," says Ranger Ruth. "This kind of activity is unacceptable, especially when graffiti associated with hate and violence is used. I think this is a clear attempt to intimidate others, and we at BLM won't stand for it."
