BLM RELEASES HORSESHOE RANCH
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

An environmental assessment (EA) analyzing proposed boundary changes for the Horseshoe Ranch Wildlife Area in northern Siskiyou County is now available for public review and comment.

The Bureau of Land Management  EA discusses the impacts of three management alternatives;  reducing the size of the wildlife area to the 1977 boundary, modifying a core boundary (the preferred alternative), or retaining the current boundary as shown in the BLM's Redding Resource Management Plan (RMP).  Implementation of a management alternative will require an amendment of the RMP.

Copies of the EA have been mailed to requesters and have been placed in the Siskiyou County Library, Yreka; the Shasta County Library, Redding; and the Southern Oregon University Library, Ashland.

Anyone interested can receive a copy by contacting BLM Planning and Environmental Coordinator Glen Miller at the BLM's Redding Field Office, (530) 224-2100.

Written comments must be postmarked by Thursday, Feb. 7.  Comments should be sent to:

        Charles Schultz, Field Office Manager
        Bureau of Land Management
        355 Hemsted Dr.
        Redding, CA 96002.

Additionally, anyone interested can comment on the proposals by attending a meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.,  in the Conference Room of the Miner's Inn, Yreka.
