AGENCIES LIFT FIRE RESTRICTIONS Burning Permit Suspension and Nevada Restrictions Remain in Effect
Fire restrictions, including limitations on fire wood cutting, are being lifted on public lands in northeast California and some parts of extreme northwest Nevada.
The Susanville Interagency Fire Center announced that as of midnight, Tuesday, Sept. 25, campfires will again be allowed, with campfire permits, in the Lassen National Forest, and on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management's offices in Susanville, Alturas and Cedarville. Restrictions have also been lifted on the neighboring Modoc and Plumas national forests.
"Firewood cutting and chainsaw use are allowed in all cutting areas, with the required fuelwood cutting permits," said Julie Vogan, a co-manager of the fire center. "There are no restrictions on cutting hours."
The suspension of permits for incinerators and trash pile burning remains in effect for lands within the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's Lassen-Modoc unit, which includes private and state-protected lands in Lassen, Modoc and Plumas counties.
Restrictions limiting campfires to developed campgrounds remain in effect for Nevada public lands managed by the BLM's Nevada field offices. Restrictions are expected to remain in effect until at least Oct. 15. Hunters and others heading into the back country should check with BLM offices in Winnemucca or Carson City for the current status of fire restrictions.
SIFC officials said the shift to autumn-like conditions - cooler temperatures, higher relative humidity, and some rain - have eased fire dangers somewhat.
"It is still important to use care with fire in the back country," said Jim Brown, fire management officer for the BLM. Conditions are still dry in many areas."
For additional information, contact the nearest office of the Bureau of Land Management or the Plumas, Lassen or Modoc national forests.
