Who: U.S. Bureau of Land Management and hundreds of local volunteers
What: National Public Lands Day
Where: Fort Ord public lands - follow the signs from the main entrance on Highway 1
When: Saturday, September 29, beginning at 9 a.m.
Why: A national event that every year draws thousands of volunteers to help fix up America's outdoors. This is the third year that BLM and Fort Ord volunteers have participated, and every year a lot of work is accomplished and great time is had by all.
Add: There are many great photo opportunities. Whole families participate in work projects-trail maintenance, weed chopping, seed collection, painting picnic tables and habitat restoration. At noon everyone takes part in a free barbecue lunch and is entertained by live music. There are free T-shirts and posters, wagon rides, nature arts and crafts and face painting.
