Community ideas invited for future of Piedras Blancas
What ideas do you have for the future of the Piedras Blancas lighthouse? That's the question for a special community meeting on Monday, April 9 at the Cambria Veteran's Hall.
The BLM sees an important stewardship role in protecting the site and respecting the many important research activities as well as ongoing navigational obligations. "I see the collaborative process as a way for the public and participating agencies to learn more about the site and help find a balance of protection, restoration, and interpretation opportunities," explained Ron Fellows, local BLM field manager. "We are in the early stages and as we plan for the future, we want to have the local hopes, concerns, and potential options in mind."
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with an informal opportunity to view exhibits about the lighthouse. At 6:30 there will be presentations about the history and current conditions of the site that establish the context for the future. Then, discussions involving everyone will take place in a workshop format. This will give each person an opportunity to express his or her hopes, issues, and options. The evening will conclude by 9 p.m. with a summary and an outline of the next steps.
The Cambria Historical Society is helping to sponsor the event. Anyone desiring more information should contact the Bureau of Land Management:
