Public Land Safety Hazard Eliminated

In response to a recent public concern, the Bureau of Land Management's Alturas Field Office, Packway Materials of Cassel, and the Intermountain Conservation Camp pulled together to eliminate a potential safety hazard on public lands near Fall River Mills.

The BLM was contacted in early December about four abandoned toilet pits in an area south of Fall River Mills.  BLM Alturas Field Manager Tim Burke turned to Packway Materials and the conservation camp for help.

"The people at Packway were anxious to help us, and quickly provided heavy equipment and materials to fill in the vaults," Burke said. "Crews from Intermountain Conservation Camp provided the muscle to complete the job last week.  The crew went the extra mile and cleaned up litter around the site."

Burke praised the company and the camp for their assistance.

"Packway and the Intermountain Conservation Camp are to be commended for their commitment to public service," he said.
