BLM SEEKING NEW MEMBER FOR NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA ADVISORY COUNCIL
The U. S. Bureau of Land Management is seeking a person to fill a vacancy on its Northeast California Resource Advisory Council, a citizen group that provides advice to the agency's managers.
The vacancy is for a term in membership category two, which includes representatives of national or regional environmental groups, wild horse and burro interest groups, persons interested in history and archaeology, and those interested in dispersed recreation activities on the public lands.
A new council member will serve the balance of a term that expires in September 2002, and will be eligible to compete for the full three-year term.
"We are seeking a person who has a good knowledge of northeastern California and northwest Nevada," said Linda Hansen, manager of the BLM's Eagle Lake Field Office in Susanville. "We need members who want to collaborate with people holding a wide variety of views in finding solutions to natural resource management issues."
Membership applications are available from BLM offices in Susanville, Alturas and Cedarville. Anyone interested can also call BLM Public Affairs Officer Jeff Fontana at (530) 257-5381 to get more information or an application.
Applications must be submitted to the Bureau of Land Management, 2950 Riverside Dr., Susanville, CA 96130, by Friday, Jan. 12, 2001.
The 15-member board is one of 25 BLM Resource Advisory Councils across the Western United States. Members represent a diverse cross section of public lands interests including recreation, commercial uses, environmental interests, cultural and historic interests, Native American tribes, local government and the academic sector.
Members are appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to serve three year terms.
