BLM Implementing Outreach to Inform Public of Partial Closure at Imperial Sand Dunes
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will distribute maps and information about the partial closure of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA) to visitors this weekend. Some areas within the ISDRA may be closed, depending on whether the judge in an ongoing lawsuit approves a recent stipulation between BLM and the Center for Biological Diversity.
Until the judge approves the stipulation, BLM confirms that sizeable areas of the ISDRA will remain open for off-road vehicle (OHV) use. The North Algodones Dunes Wilderness Area, just north of the ISDRA remains closed to vehicle use.
For more information regarding the partial closure at the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area contact BLM's El Centro Field Office at (760) 337-4400 or access BLM's Web pages at www.ca.blm.gov or www.ca.blm.gov/elcentro/lawsuit_ctrbiodiv.html - ADDED to that page, 2:30 P.M. Friday, 10/27/00: View or print the brochure that is being distributed to visitors this weekend. (PDF file -- requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free download from the company)
