FIRE RESTRICTIONS LIFTED IN SOME AREAS, RETAINED IN OTHERS
The onset of a cool autumn weather pattern has led to lifting of fire restrictions in some areas of northeastern California and northwestern Nevada, while restrictions remain in effect for other areas.
Officials at the Lassen, Plumas and Modoc national forests yesterday ended restrictions on use of campfires and internal combustion engines on all areas of their forests. With the easing of restrictions, firewood cutting is again allowed, with permits, on those forests. On the Lassen and Plumas national forests, closures remain in effect in the area of the Storrie Fire. Current information on the closures is available from the Almanor Ranger District, (530) 258-2141, or the Mt. Hough Ranger District, (530) 283-0555.
Officials at the Susanville Interagency Fire Center cautioned that fire dangers are still high in many areas and advised everyone to be careful with any outdoor use of fire.
A variety of restrictions remains in effect for public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, where recent rainfall has been more sporadic, and did not reduce fire danger significantly, according to SIFC officials.
- Full fire restrictions remain in effect for public lands administered by the BLM's Eagle Lake Field Office in Lassen, Plumas, Sierra and Washoe counties. Campfires are allowed only in developed campgrounds, and internal combustion engines are allowed only on established roads.
- On BLM lands managed by the Surprise Field Office in eastern Modoc and northwestern Washoe counties, firewood cutting is allowed until 1 p.m. daily. Campfires are allowed only in designated campgrounds, and internal combustion engines are restricted to roads.
- All restrictions have been lifted on lands managed by the BLM Alturas Field Office in Modoc, northern Lassen and eastern Siskiyou and Shasta counties.
The ban on incinerator burning and trash pile burning remains in effect for private lands in Lassen and Modoc counties, and the Lake Almanor Basin. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection will ease those restrictions when cooler, wet weather reduces fire danger across the region.
