BLM Asks for Oil Industry Input on Next Lease Sale

Another sale of oil and gas leases on federal land is being planned by the Bureau of Land Management for March 14, 2001, and industry leaders are being asked to identify unleased federal lands in California they would like to see included.  BLM calls this an "expression of interest."

An expression of interest is a letter listing the legal descriptions of lands an individual or company is interested in seeing offered for lease.  Expressions of interest must be received by November 10, 2000 in order to be considered for inclusion in the sale.  They should be sent to the BLM-California State Office, Branch of Energy and Mineral Science and Adjudication at 2800 Cottage Way, Suite W-1618, Sacramento, CA 95825.

BLM-Bakersfield has produced  a map showing the location of all lands that have been leased in the past three years.  The map may be purchased at the BLM office in Bakersfield for $7.00.  It is also available on the Internet at:

The Bureau of Land Management is required by Congress to periodically offer federal lands for lease for oil and gas development, and BLM wants to include land in which the industry has shown an interest.

The next oil and gas lease sale is scheduled for March 14, 2001, at the Holiday Inn  Select in Bakersfield.  Questions regarding the sale, or about expressions of interest, should be directed to Nora Dedios at the BLM-Bakersfield Office, (661) 391-6129 or Brenda Kidder at the BLM-California State Office, (916) 978-4374
