Organization

Arizona Bureau of Land Management is responsible for administering more than 12 million surface acres of public land. To manage these vast resources, our agency hires individuals in a wide variety of occupations such as range management, hydrology, civil engineering, surveying, outdoor recreation planning, heavy equipment operation, wildland fire management, and law enforcement. We also recruit for administrative occupations such as budget and finance, contracting, information technology, public affairs, and clerical. We meet that challenge with a talented and creative workforce. 

The Bureau of Land Management in Arizona is comprised of the Arizona State Office, four districts, and nine field offices. The Arizona State Office provides technical and administrative expertise and support to field units and coordinates the accomplishment of mission critical work throughout the organization.

Each of the four districts in the organization has a unique distribution of workload priorities.

• The Phoenix District focuses on high priority programs associated with demands for recreation, energy and transportation corridors, and open space. 
• The Gila District runs the spectrum from rural to urban issues, with a heavy emphasis on water, endangered species, and cultural resource protection.  
• The Arizona Strip manages large contiguous blocks of public lands, with high potential for ecological restoration but also challenges from energy mineral demands, invasive species and habitat conversion.  
• The Colorado River District gets its name from the Colorado River which is the primary river of the American Southwest.  The Colorado River District is home to Historic Route 66 National Back Country Byway, has one of the largest wild burro populations, the Bureau's largest Concession-Resort Program, manages the only lake recreation program in the Bureau, and encompasses one of the largest wilderness programs in Arizona.
