Saturday June 9 | Summary: Temperature at 6:45 am was 80 degrees, and reached 91 degrees when gather operations for the day were concluded. Fifty-one animals, 19 jacks and 32 jennies and foals, were shipped to Ridgecrest Regional Wild Horse and Burro Corrals. Sunday June 10 | Summary: Twenty-seven jennies, and 3 jacks were gathered today. This was the first day transporting burros down the Colorado River to the temporary holding pens. The burros were placed on a boat because there is no road access in the area. Temperature at the start of the day was 78 degrees. Temperatures when gather ended at 10:30 a.m. was 94 degrees. The overall condition of the burros gathered today was 3 (Henneke Body Condition Score). Monday June 11 | Summary: This is the second day of transporting burros down river by boat. Twenty Six burros, 16 jacks and 10 jennies, were safely delivered to temporary holding pens. Temperature in the morning when gather operations began was 78 degrees. Temperature reached 97 degrees five minutes before gather ended for the day at 10:07 a.m. The overall Henneke Body Condition Score was 3. Fifty-nine burros, 17 jacks and 42 jennies and foals, were shipped to Ridgecrest Regional Wild Horse and Burro Corrals. Tuesday June 12 | Summary: This is the final day of transporting burros by boat down river to the temporary holding pens. Twenty-five jacks and 19 jennies were gathered today. Wednesday June 13 | Summary: There were no gather operations today in order to move to the north end of the Herd Management Area. Gather operations will resume on Thursday. The public and media are invited to meet at 6:30 a.m. at Wheelie's Gas Station and Store in Palo Verde, California to view the gather. Seventy burros, 58 jacks and 12 jennies and foals, were shipped to Ridgecrest Regional Wild Horse and Burro Corrals. Thursday June 14 | Summary: Gather operations concluded today at 8:30 a.m. and 87 degrees with 113 burros safely trapped. The reason for the large gather numbers today was because burros in the area have been feeding on Cibola National Wildlife Refuge alfalfa fields, and they are concentrated in large numbers in this area. The fields are planted to attract migratory waterfowl in the winter. BLM will ship the burros in two shipments to Ridgecrest Friday June 15 and Saturday June16.
