Within the BLM seasonal jobs in firefighting include working on a local unit handcrew, helitack crew, a hotshot crew, an engine crew, or as a smokejumper.

To challenge its firefighters to maintain their ability to perform their arduous tasks, the BLM developed a Challenge that not only promotes physical fitness but also comaraderie and some friendly competion within their units, state, and other BLM firefighters in other states.

BLM's Fitness Challenge

Individuals interested in becoming a seasonal firefighter need to think about applying and having thier applications in the system as early as November for the following fire season.  Many managers begin hiring and selecting individuals as early as January for that year's fire season.
