Summary: Color Country Fire resources are mitigating a fire located on the Arizona Strip near Quail Hill this morning. The lightning caused fire which began July 2, 2014 at 6:15 p.m. is estimated between 100-150 acres. Fire officials are requesting the public’s assistance in keeping the area clear for work to continue by fire mitigation crews. No closures are currently in effect.

Start Date: Wednesday, July 2, 2014 6:15 p.m.

Location: Approximately 25 miles south of St. George, Utah

Jurisdiction:
BLM Arizona Strip District

Fire Size: Estimated between 100-150 acres. Accurate GPS mapping of the fire acreage is underway this morning.

Cause: Lightning

Fire Behavior: Backing and flanking fire

Closures: No closures are in effect

Structures: None

Percent Contained: None

Fuels: Cheatgrass, mixed brush, pinyon/juniper trees, and black brush

Fire Crews/Resources: 1 Water Tender, 2 Engines, 1-5 person Initial Attach Squad, Type 3 Moki Helitack, 2 Single Engine Air Tankers. These Color Country interagency teams include resources from the BLM Arizona Strip District, Zion National Park, Las Vegas BLM, and Beaver Dam Fire Department.
