National Public Lands Day Celebration in Bullhead City

Lake Havasu City, Ariz. - A National Public Lands Day celebration will be held at the Colorado River Nature Center in Bullhead City on Saturday, November 14, 2009, from 9 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to attend the free event.

Bullhead City and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lake Havasu Field Office are co-sponsors for the celebration.

“There will be geocaching and Leave No Trace activities this year,” said BLM Lake Havasu National Public Lands Day coordinator Erica Thoele. “We’re asking folks to please bring their own global position system (gps) units for the geocaching hunts. The day’s activities will be especially fun for school kids. We will have food, free items, and prizes for the geocaching hunts.”

The Colorado River Nature Center is located at the southwest end of Bullhead City, Arizona, next to the Colorado River.  The Center is managed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, Bullhead City, and BLM.  It's a popular recreation area with hiking, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing opportunities.  The lush wetland vegetation provides habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including waterfowl, resident and migratory birds.

To get to the Colorado River Nature Center take Route 95 south out of Bullhead City about seven miles, then turn west on Richardo Avenue.

For more information about the meeting, contact Erica Thoele at the BLM Lake Havasu Field Office, 928-505-1200.

The BLM manages more land - 253 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
