For immediate release: January 28, 2009 Media Contact: Diane Williams 928-505-1250 $2,500 Reward Offered for Vandalism at BLM Site The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for vandalism of a popular recreation site near Parker, Arizona. Bass Point, located along the Colorado River below Parker Dam, was heavily damaged during the weekend of January 15-19. The BLM day-use site is on Parker Dam Road, between the Emerald Cove and Riverview Resorts, in California. Graffiti and other damage was noted by BLM Field Staff Ranger Michael Dodson. The initials RVA, ST, RGA, and RPS were spray painted on the signs and restroom. Dodson estimates the vandalism exceeds $5,000 in damage. Anyone with information on this felony crime is asked to contact Ranger Dodson, at 928-505-1202. The reward is $2,500 and you can remain anonymous. The BLM manages more land – 256 million acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. --BLM--
