The first “Stimulus” or American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in western Arizona is about to get underway. Coop Contracting, Inc., of Buena Park, California was awarded the $89,500 project to seal and chip seal the existing parking surface at the Rock House Visitors Center and Boat Launch on the Parker Strip Recreation Area. The facility is managed by BLM Lake Havasu Field Office. This site is located on the California side of the Colorado River, along the Parker Dam Road National Back Country Byway, a recreation paradise of campgrounds, day use areas, concession resorts, and OHV open areas. The (BLM) Rock House Visitor Center and Boat Ramp on the Parker Strip will be temporarily closed Monday, December 21 to Thursday, December 24, 2009 while the ramp and parking areas paving is underway. The volunteer site hosts will put out signs and barricades on Sunday night after visitors leave. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by the President is an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st Century. The Recovery Act includes measures to modernize our nation’s infrastructure, enhance energy independence, and expand opportunities for young people. Approximately $16.7 million is targeted to be spent on BLM public lands projects in Arizona. “Contractors interested in bidding on ARRA projects must be registered on the Central Contractor Registration System at http://www.ccr.gov,” said BLM Colorado District Associate Manager Vi Hillman. “There’s a great brochure which gives more detailed information - Doing Business with the Bureau of Land Management – on the Arizona BLM Home page at www.blm.gov/az.” The Rock House Visitor Center and Boat Ramp are popular facilities on the Parker Strip Recreation Area. The facilities provide visitors with recreation and other information, scenic views overlooking the river, and restrooms. Boat launching is free to the public. The center is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For questions about the project contact Project Engineer Bill Parry at the BLM Lake Havasu Field Office (928) 505-1211. |

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
