BLM Partnership Completes New Docks at Take-Off Point Lake Havasu, Ariz. –– Just in time for warm days on Lake Havasu, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), in partnership with Arizona State Parks and La Paz County completed work on new boat docks and larger parking area at Take-Off Point. The docks are handicap accessible, and provide cleats for temporary mooring watercraft when launching or retrieving. On hand for the opening ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, were La Paz County Supervisors John Drum and Sandy Pierce, along with County Administrator Dan Field. As the County’s only access to Lake Havasu, the new facility complements fishing stations, restrooms, picnic tables, and parking completed by the BLM and La Paz County over the last several years. “This is great,” said Paul Lindsay, a Lake Havasu City resident, as he guided his wheelchair down the dock. Lindsay was at the site birdwatching. Funding was provided by Arizona State Parks State Lake Improvement Fund and La Paz County. The County also provided labor to prepare the site, and contracted with London Bridge Marine Corporation for construction. The BLM provided labor and materials to put finishing touches on the upgraded facility. Solar lighting at the site docks and boat ramp assists boaters coming off the lake at night. The public is advised that on holiday weekends, the free launch site closes when the parking areas are full. BLM manages the popular site for day use recreational activities, and hopes that anyone witnessing vandalism would report it to them. For information on Take-Off Point or other BLM programs, please call the Lake Havasu Field Office at (928) 505-1200, or toll-free at 1-888-213-2582. The BLM manages more land – 256 million acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
