For Release: March 26, 2008 Final Programs Announced for This Year’s Lecture Series St. George, Utah – A variety of resource management topics will be offered on Friday afternoons during the month of April. Presentations begin at noon and last approximately one hour. Programs are held at the Interagency Information Center, located at 345 E. Riverside Drive in St. George, UT. The “Brown Bag” lecture series will conclude at the end of April and resume next fall. The lecture series is sponsored by the Arizona Strip Interpretive Association, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service. Admission is free, but space is limited. Obtain tickets in advance from the Interagency Information Center to reserve a seat. For more information call 435-688-3246. April 4: Landscaping for the Birds Spring is in the air so come join BLM biologist and local birder Bob Douglas, as he shares some simple landscaping tips that will help to attract a variety of birds to your yard. April 11: The Red Cliffs Desert Reserve Tom Webster, community outreach coordinator for the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve will discuss the creation of the protected area and the many wonders it has to offer. Tom will discuss desert wildlife with an emphasis on the Mojave Desert tortoise. He will bring along a few “wild friends” for you to meet up close. April 18: Green Park, Green Planet: An Orientation to Sustainability Get ready to celebrate Earth Day with Zion National Park landscape architect Lisa Ogden. "Sustainability” literally means able to last, but lately it has become a buzzword hinting at everything "green" and environmentally-friendly. Many people cringe at the word "environmentalist" and think it means giving up a lot of our creature comforts, but there are things that we can each do every day to help the environment without changing our lifestyles too drastically. Lisa will talk about the measures Zion National Park is taking to do just that, as well as give information on the changes you can make to live "greener." April 25: Pakoon Springs: Before, During and After the Alligator BLM program manager Kathleen Harcksen will discuss the ongoing efforts to restore a desert wetland at Pakoon Springs. She will provide an update on the surprising former Arizona Strip resident alligator named Clem. -BLM-
