Prescribed Burn Planned For The Hualapai Mountains

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Kingman Field Office will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Hualapai Mountains on February 8, 2008, weather permitting. Approximately 250 acres of interior chaparral will be burned south of the Pine Lake Community. The burn should be completed within two to three days of ignition.

The purpose of the burn is to remove dense accumulations of brush adjacent to the Pine Lake Community.  The burn will help reduce the threat of a wildfire to Pine Lake.

Recent snow has created desirable conditions to conduct the burn safely. Smoke from the burn is likely to be visible from Kingman, Interstate 40, and Highway 93 but should have little to no impact on visibility and vehicle travel. Residents in Pine Lake and on the east slope of the Hualapai Mountains may experience some smoke at times but the smoke should disperse quickly.

Flag Mine road, Antelope Wash road, and any other roads accessing the burn area may be closed temporarily and monitored by fire personnel during the burn operation to provide for public safety. “The BLM greatly appreciates the public’s cooperation and support for prescribed fire use on public land,” said BLM Fuels Specialist Wade Reaves. For additional information please contact the BLM at (928) 718-3700.
