For Release: December 9, 2008 Contact: Wade Reaves (928) 718-3734 PRESCRIBED BURNING PLANNED NEAR PINE LAKE AND ATHERTON ACRES The Bureau of Land Management Kingman Field Office (BLM) in cooperation with Pine Lake Fire Department and Pinion Pine Fire Department will burn brush piles near the communities of Pine Lake and Atherton Acres in the coming weeks. Burning may begin as early as Wednesday, December 10th and will continue until the piles have been burned. The piles are remains of hazardous fuels from the construction and maintenance of fuel breaks completed by BLM around these communities. Excess hazardous brush that homeowners have removed from their properties in Pine Lake and piled at the brush disposal site may also be burned. These projects are being done to reduce the threat of wildfire in and around the Pine Lake and Atherton Acres communities. BLM, Pine Lake Fire Department, and Pinion Pine Fire Department personnel will ignite the piles when weather and vegetation conditions allow for safe burning to minimize any potential threat to Pine Lake and Atherton Acres. The brush piles will be ignited during or following periods of precipitation to minimize any risk to the communities. The piles are expected to burn down quickly. Smoke should disperse out of the area in a short period of time. Residents should expect some light smoke in the area during the burn operation. Ignition will stop if smoke begins to impact the communities. Jeep trails accessing the burn area will be closed and monitored by fire personnel during the burn operation to provide for public safety. The burn will not affect local traffic. The burn is expected to be completed within the next few weeks. For more information on this project, contact Wade Reaves, at the BLM Kingman Field Office (928) 718-3700. --BLM--
