BLM Publishes Proposed Resource Management Plan and
Final Environmental Impact Statement

Yuma, Ariz. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released the Proposed Resource Management Plan (Proposed Plan) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Yuma Field Office today. The Proposed Plan/FEIS defines current resources and uses, and anticipates future needs of the area for the next decade and beyond.

Availability of the Proposed Plan/FEIS is a major milestone in the four-year planning process for the Yuma Field Office, which manages 1.3 million acres of public land in southwestern Arizona and a narrow strip in southeastern California along the lower Colorado River. The document represents an analysis and integration of issues, concerns, and comments provided by the public and other government agencies.

The lengthy documents can be viewed online at www.blm.gov/az/. The public may also request these documents by contacting the BLM Yuma Field Office at 2555 E. Gila Ridge Rd., Yuma, AZ 85365; by e-mailing AZ_YM_RMP@blm.gov; or by calling
928-317-3200.

Availability of the Proposed Plan/FEIS begins the final phase in the planning process. It provides an opportunity for administrative review and filing of a protest by any person who submitted issues for the record during the planning process and believes they will be adversely affected by the plan. Written protests must be postmarked no later than 30 days after the document was published in the Federal Register, or by May 11, 2008. The procedure for filing protests is available on the website or by request from the BLM office.
