The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Safford Field Office is soliciting public nominations for four positions on the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area Advisory Committee. Nominations must be received by August 30, 2007.

The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to provide informed advice to the BLM Safford Field Office on management of public lands within the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area (NCA). To ensure membership on the committee is balanced in terms of categories of interest represented, nominees must be qualified to provide advice in specific areas related to the primary purposes for which the NCA was created. These include wildlife conservation, hydrology, riparian ecology, cultural resources, recreation, environmental education, or other related disciplines.

Persons wishing to nominate someone, or those wishing to be considered for appointment to the Advisory Committee, should complete a Gila Box Advisory Committee Nomination Form. These forms are available from the Safford Field Office or online at the BLM’s website, www.blm.gov/az, where they are linked to this news release. Nomination forms and letters of recommendation should be submitted to the BLM Safford Field Manager at the address provided on the form and must be received by August 30.

Each person selected to serve on the Committee will serve a three-year term that begins at the time of appointment. Terms of two committee members will begin immediately upon their appointment. Terms of the other two committee members will begin with the expiration of current memberships on March 31, 2008. All four current members may apply to serve another term on the Committee. The Advisory Committee meets 1-2 times per year. Members serve without salary but are reimbursed for travel and per diem expenses at current rates for government employees.
