salado rock house Take a trip back in time and see how the Mogollon people became successful farmers in the southeastern Arizona, the Paleo-Indian (Clovis culture) hunters use stone-tipped spears and Cochise people hunt and gather throughout the year.

A Dankworth Village Teacher's Activity Guide (free to teachers) is available for the Dankworth Village. Dankworth also offers scenic hiking trails,  picnic facilities, and restrooms as well as fishing in Dankworth Pond(An Arizona fishing license is required.).  As you look toward Mt. Grahm,  you can see the desert, oak woodland, and mountain zones.

Directions:  Take Highway 191 south from Safford for 7 miles.  Dankworth Ponds State Park sign will be on east side of road. Turn onto Dankworth Road to parking lot.  This is a State Park and cars must pay $4.00 fee.

Elevation:  3,240 feet

Half-mile walk leads to exhibit of reconstructed prehistoric dwellings and use areas typical of aboriginal inhabitants of Safford region.

Resource Convervation and Protection

You may examine artificats in Dankworth Village but leave them where you find them.  Others will want to see and learn about the same things that you did.  Do not collect plants, flowers, or rocks.

Archaeological sites are part of our environment that need to be protected.
