Abstract:
These data were extracted as is from the data described in this metadata file. The data set consists of linear hydrography features in Arizona.. Converted in the fall of 1988 from USGS 1:100,000 scale DLG data to ARC format. Since then, multiple and extensive corrections have taken place. Early on, several Arizona agencies were part of rectification including: attributes, features, edgematching and the re-tiling of the data into the USGS Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) library tiling format. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has since added critical attributes to the Arizona database, including: A nationally recognized management link code (the Reach Id), names, and hydrologic information. Arizona has enhanced the theme further by adding ergonomic Descriptive Attribute Codes, Cartographic Order, more Names, and intense Quality Assurance Controls. |

Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.

The data are created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analysis purposes. These data do not represent a legal record.
This is a subset of the STREAMS dataset and contains Perennial Streams (CLASS = 12, 13, 32, or 33) and associated hydro features.

Digitize paper maps to create data. Perennial waters were described by many specialists in the study of hydrology on quad maps and digitized. There was no ground-truthing done to verify accuracy.
The arcs in this coverage were taken from the original STREAMS coverage by querying for CLASS = 12, 13, 32, 33 (Perennial streams).
It was determined that stream names'*a' thru '*l' served no purpose and were therefore deleted from the Names column in the Attribute Table. Only the names were deleted, not the actual streams.
