Campbell Creek Science Center Open House
Saturday, September 24, 2011, 1:30pm - 4:30pm.
Each year the BLM Campbell Creek Science Center hosts an Open House that's organized around a particular theme and provides opportunities for people to explore that theme.
On September 25, 2010, approximately 600 people joined us for an afternoon of activity designed to promote the DOI's "Let's Move Outside" campaign and encourage people to exercise more in the great outdoors. The event featured more than a dozen activity stations, including gold-panning, fly-tying, a rock-climbing wall, outdoor Tai Chi and yoga, birding, orienteering, an obstacle course, a bear-spray clinic, Moms/Pops/Tots (encouraging new parents and toddlers to explore the outdoors), biking, running, geocaching, s'mores by the fire, and kayaking.
There was also a "Jump!" activity at which people could have their pictures taken jumping into the outdoors. Participants were invited to email their photos far and wide with a "get outdoors" message. People turned in activity sheets for prizes from the President's Challenge (water bottles, pedometers, and stopwatches). They were also invited to make a pledge to exercise more in the outdoors.
