IV. Field Techniques and Experience
By completing this standard, candidates will understand and practice current techniques necessary for resource inventories and ecosystem monitoring efforts. Candidates will understand the role of these programs in the protection of natural resources and gain knowledge useful for educational programs.
Workshop
Candidates must attend the Field Methods Workshop. This workshop focuses on the process of scientific data collection and analysis. Hands-on activities are used to introduce participants to the materials and methods used in field research projects.
Waiver Policy: This requirement may be waived with documentation of university-level courses or contributing work in this area in the past three years. Regardless of eligibility for a waiver, however, attendance is highly recommended.

Field Research Project
Candidates must document at least 10 hours of involvement in a natural resource inventory, ecosystem monitoring effort or other scientific project organized by a university, governmental agency or community group. The link below will take you to a partial list of acceptable projects available in the community. Candidates may participate in these or other, comparable projects. Eligible projects must reflect the process of scientific thought and methods, and candidates must provide a summary of written protocols and quality controls.
