What do the Friends of the Campbell Creek Science Center do?
Friends are people who enjoy the Campbell Tract and its trails and work to protect its value as a wild place. The 730-acre Campbell Tract provides important habitat for local wildlife, such as salmon, moose, brown and black bear, lynx, coyote, beaver, and many songbirds. The tract also offers premiere recreational opportunities and serves as an outdoor classroom where 40,000 annual visitors to the science center explore, study, and learn to care for the natural world.
Friends support programs that engage students of all ages in experiential learning. We believe that direct experience of natural ecosystems inspires curiosity, awe, and wonder in the natural world. Such appreciation and understanding is critical for the development of a stewardship ethic toward public lands, wildlife, and all wild places.
Friends volunteer at the science center and on the Campbell Tract assisting with education programs, conducting ecosystem monitoring surveys, maintaining recreational trails, and working on habitat restoration projects.
