Dalton Highway

Visitor Centers

Three visitor centers, one in Fairbanks and two along the highway, offer good sources of information and helpful advice for Dalton Highway travelers.

Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC)

This interagency visitor center in downtown Fairbanks is located at 250 Cushman Street (in the basement of the historic post office building). The center provides information on all public lands in northern Alaska. During the summer (May 26 to September 1 ) APLIC is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.  Call the center at 907-456-0527.

Yukon Crossing Contact Station

This BLM visitor center is located on the Dalton Highway at milepost 56, where the highway crosses the Yukon River. Look for a log cabin on the east side of the highway just north of the Yukon River Bridge. The contact station is generally staffed by BLM volunteers from early June through the end of August and is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to information for Dalton Highway travelers, the contact station offers a short interpretive walk leading to a viewing deck overlooking the Yukon River. The station also sells limited items from Alaska Geographic.
