Kobuk-Seward Peninsula Resource Management Plan
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is nearing completion of a Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the northwest portion of Alaska. The plan, known as the Kobuk-Seward Peninsula RMP, will provide future direction for 12 million acres of public land that includes the Seward Peninsula, the Nulato Hills, the DeLong Mountains, and the Squirrel and Kobuk river valleys.
This plan will provide management direction for BLM public lands as well as those lands selected by the State of Alaska and Native corporations until conveyance occurs. Any proposed action on selected lands will require concurrence from the entity that has selected the land. The purpose of the plan is to establish guidance, objectives, policies, and management actions for public lands administered by the Fairbanks District Office and Anchorage Field Office within the planning area for the next 10 to 15 years.
Along with the RMP, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been developed as part of the planning process. An integral component of the Kobuk-Seward Peninsula RMP is public involvement. Throughout the project, stakeholders and residents will have opportunities to participate and share their insights and comments.
This Web site provides the latest information on the development of the RMP and the EIS, including background documents, maps, meeting announcements, published bulletins and other documents.
