Iditarod Centennial exhibit featured at 2009 Alaska State Fair
Visitors to the 2009 Alaska State Fair were treated to a special glimpse into Alaska's history. The BLM, Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance, and Chugach National Forest teamed up to present a hands-on Iditarod Centennial exhibit at the Fair.
The exhibit was appropriately housed at the historic Wineck Barn. The exhibit included two doglseds--a sprint sled and a freight sled--to give visitors an up-close look at mushing. Visitors stood on the runners while friends snapped photos.
Numerous interpretive displays helped tell the fascinating story of the Iditarod Trail and his rich history. There was also a crafts table where young (and not-so-young!) Iditarod enthusiasts could make their own Iditarod bookmark, complete with official Iditarod National Historic Trail logo stamp.
The BLM thanks our Iditarod Centennial exhibit partners and the many visitors who dropped in to share your stories about Alaska's enduring trail!
