Mineral Material

The majority of the BLM's mineral material sites in Alaska are for sand and gravel. The primary users are the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (for highways and airports) and Alyeska Pipeline Service Company (for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System).

Information on purchasing mineral materials from the BLM, including costs, access, bonding, and reclamation requirements can be obtained by contacting the District Office which manages the area in which you are interested.

Vast quantities of these minerals exist on Federal lands in Alaska, but extreme climatic conditions and the lack of transportation infrastructure and viable markets make them generally unprofitable to extract.
