MANDATORY EEO TRAINING REQUIREMENT

INTRODUCTION
The following information is intended to assist employees, supervisors and managers in meeting the mandatory requirement for EEO/Diversity training.  Any questions on the content of this site should be directed to the BLM AK EEO Office at 907-271-5066.

2 HOUR ANNUAL MADATORY REQUIRMENT FOR EMPLOYEES
The Bureau of Land Management requires all employees to complete a minimum of 2 hours of training related to EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) and/or Diversity annually per EEO IB. AK 2007-017. The training is required annually by fiscal year.

4 HOUR ANNUAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENT
The Department of the Interior requires all supervisors and managers to complete a minimum of 4 hours of training related to EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) and/or Diversity annually per Equal Opportunity Directive EOD-1997-14. The training is required annually by fiscal year.

The EEO/Diversity Training is in compliance with the guidelines of the Strategic Plan for Achieving and Maintaining a Highly Skilled and Diverse Workforce FY 2005-2009. This plan, which will enable the Department to make significant contributions toward achieving and maintaining a highly skilled and diverse workforce, can be reviewed on the Office of Civil Rights website under the Workforce Diversity category or by clicking on the link above.

WHAT COUNTS TOWARDS THIS TRAINING REQUIREMENT?

Memorandum EOD 1997-14 states that “training should include valuing and managing diversity, affirmative employment, alternative dispute resolution, reasonable accommodation, prevention of complaints and sexual harassment.”

Managers and supervisors should ensure that they select courses covering the broader areas of diversity, such as various cultures, sexual orientation, and other characteristics that must be considered when managing a diverse workforce.

The Department of Interior's Office of Civil Rights has remained flexible in determining what courses can fulfill the minimum four hours of training requirement. To view potential topics, please click on the “Recommended Subjects” category
