Student Education Employment Program
Every mission ever undertaken by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) began with just one person, one person committed to being part of a team to get the job done. If you are that kind of person, a team player who wants to roll up your sleeves and go the extra mile, look no further than the BLM.
The BLM employs students from high schools, colleges, and universities from around the country, including Historically Black Colleges and universities, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Institutions, and Native American Colleges and Universities.
A student is an individual who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree (diploma, certificate) seeking student and is taking at least half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational school, 2 year or 4 year college/university, graduate or professional school. The definition of half-time is the definition given by the school in which the student is enrolled.
The programs are open to students enrolled half-time high school, undergraduate, and graduate college students (or students who have been accepted for enrollment) in accredited educational institutions. Students must be at least 16 years of age, maintain good academic standing, and be a U.S. citizen (or a permanent resident, provided that U.S. citizenship is achieved by the time of graduation).
ROLE OF STUDENT:
- Learn duties, responsibilities, and reporting policies (attendance, leave, etc.)
- Perform the duties described in his/her job description and performance plan
- Establish a work schedule
- Work with his/her mentor and or supervisor in assessing his/her training needs
- Communicate with supervisor, mentor, and program coordinator
- Inform his/her supervisor of what is needed to assist him/her with the job
- Pursue self-development by attending training identified to enhance career development
Students can work in all areas of the Bureau: natural resources, wildlife, cultural resources, recreation, information resources, and administration. Since we are a multidisciplinary organization, career opportunities abound for individuals with a variety of educational and work backgrounds.
