Equal Employment Opportunity

The Equal Employment Opportunity and Civil Rights Program ensures that all federal agencies take affirmative steps to provide equal opportunity to minorities, women and people with disabilities in all areas of employment. The Bureau of Land Management, Alaska (BLM-AK)  promotes equity in employment and personnel practices. Perhaps now more than ever federal agencies must position themselves to attract, develop and retain a top-quality workforce that can deliver results and ensure our nation's continued growth and prosperity.

Equal opportunity in the federal workplace is key to accomplishing this goal.  Developing a competitive, highly qualified workforce, requires federal agencies to fully utilize all workers' talents, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or disability. While the promise of workplace equality is a legal right afforded all workers, equal opportunity is more than a matter of social justice,  it is a national economic imperative. Federal agencies must make full use of our nation's human capital by promoting workplace practices that free up opportunities for the best and brightest talent available. All workers must compete on a fair and level playing field and have the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.

National and local recruitment increases public awareness of BLM and diversity in the applicant pool and overall employment. Our initiatives are aligned with Department of Interior plans which include, but are not limited to the Strategic Plan, the Strategic Human Capital Management Plan, the Strategic Plan for Achieving and Maintaing A Highly Skilled and Diverse Workforce and the goal to increase the number of employees with disabilities.
