Ten Seasons of Volunteer Service in AlaskaPhoto of award recipients, Jim and Cathy Leonard, with Gene Ervine, BLM-Alaska Volunteer Coordinator; Will Runnoe, BLM Glennallen Field Manager; and Gary Reimer, BLM Anchorage District Manager

Jim and Cathy Leonard started with the Bureau of Land Management in 2000 as Volunteer Campground Hosts at the popular Sourdough Creek Campground along the banks of the Gulkana National Wild River.  Since that time, they have returned each summer, providing familiar faces to the returning public and quality volunteer service.  In an award ceremony to recognize their dedication and service, Cathy Leonard was surprised to learn that she has volunteered over 10,000 hours during the past 10 seasons.  Jim was equally surprised to discover that he volunteered over 3,000 hours, before being hired as the Glennallen Field Office seasonal facilities maintenance worker in 2003, a position he has capably handled since.  Jim and Cathy’s incredible work ethic and commitment have resulted in outstanding customer service at BLM Glennallen Field Office facilites, especially BLM's Sourdough Creek Campground.
