Join the BLM July 28, 2012 for National Public Lands Day
On July 9, 2011, volunteers of all ages met at mile 45.5 of the Richardson Highway to brush out the old road bed along the Tiekel River. Volunteers cut back overgrown alders and brush to expose a great trail for hiking and biking. Everyone celebrated their efforts with a BBQ, Let's Move Outside Games, and a few fun prizes.
On June 19, 2010 the BLM Glennallen Field Office hosted a National Public Lands Day/National Landscape Conservation System 10th anniversary event at the BLM Paxson Lake Campground.
Field staff and 50 volunteers removed an aging boardwalk, brushed out a water-line maintenance area, and planted native seeds and trees. The group also enjoyed a free barbecue, an ATV safety demonstration presented by the 4-H Copper Nuggets ATV Education club, and the release of a rescued bald eagle into the wild by the Alaska Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center. The center also brought liver birds, including a great gray owl, great horned owl, harlen hawk, rough-legged hawk, merlin falcon, and raven.
